1. SEED has been invited to participate in the panel discussion ‘Entrepreneurship as a Tool for Empowerment’ during the High Level Thematic Debate at the 67th Session of the United Nation General Assembly, on 26 June 2013, in New York.

  2. World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round and climax on 5 June every year involving everyone from everywhere.
  3. Since 2009, SEED and its research partner, IISD, have conducted a three year study to increase knowledge and understanding about small-scale social and environmental enterprises.

  7. Several SEED Alumni attended and were able to present their enterprises during a workshop in Centurion, South Africa, on 26 October.

  8. SEED is proud to be a partner in the 15th International Business Forum (IBF) in Pretoria, October 2012, which is part of the dialogue series “Investment Climate for Climate Investment - fostering business dynamics for inclusive low carbon growth".

  9. A Partnerships Forum will be organized at Rio+20, which will consist of highly dynamic and interactive sessions to highlight the significant contributions of partnerships to the implementation of sustainable development. SEED will participate in two sessions of the forum.
  10. Three of the 2011 SEED Winners will be showcasing their initiative as examples of innovative women-led enterprises.
  11. SEED has worked closely with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) since 2007 on a programme of research to increase technical knowledge and understanding about small-scale social and environmental enterprises.
  12. In 2009, SEED and IISD started a three-year study of the performance of social and environmental micro enterprises. The research is based on those enterprises that have applied for recognition from the SEED Initiative. The current report covers year two of the study.

  22. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Hisense International Co. Ltd. today signed a partnership at a ceremony in UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, which will work to promote and strengthen the brand profile and global positioning of the SEED Award.

  23. SEED's Executive Director, Helen Marquard, took part in November in a session entitled Bottom of the Pyramid Approaches and Inclusive Growth - Innovative Business Models and Opportunities.

  24. The Low Carbon Enterprise Fund was established to support small “low carbon” businesses in the developing world. The fund sits within the ERM Foundation - a not-for-profit charity - and provides finance in the form of loans and equity stakes to entrepreneurs in emerging markets.
