Fostering the Circular Economy: Role of MSMEs | Policy Landscape Paper India
The Circular Economy (CE) policy context as it relates to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India is essential to integrating and mainstreaming the transition to the circular economy in India. Given the almost one third share of GDP coming from MSMEs and the sector contributing to almost half of the exports, it is critical to understand the existing ways in which CE is already being integrated or fostered by MSMEs, and the potential opportunities and required support to tap into these opportunities.
This policy landscape paper explains in detail on, eco-inclusive enterprises' contributions in the transition to a Circular Economy through different upstream and downstream business models, what their current challenges and barriers to scale and replicate, also on how best policy mechanisms can support MSMEs in leveraging CE opportunities.
In mid-September 2021, SEED has kicked off Practitioner Labs for Policy Prototyping on the topic “Fostering the Circular Economy: Role of MSMEs" to explore policy challenges faced by circular economy enterprises in India and collaborate to co-create prototype solutions in the presence of Indian MSME public and private sector actors. On 8th October 2021, SEED will participate in GreenCo Summit 2021 to elaborate and discuss these challenges, guided by challenge collaborators/hosts.
